Welcome to Eckels Pottery. We are located in Bayfield Wisconsin along the shore of Lake Superior. Our studio is the oldest functioning pottery in Wisconsin! Robert Eckels founded the pottery in 1960 in Ashland, Wisconsin and eventually moved to Bayfield. Daughter, Deanna Eckels, still makes pottery. Visit and explore the unique hand-crafted pottery for sale, watch a master potter at work, check out kiln openings, or discuss the pottery or beyond with Deanna and Pete.
If you need replacement pieces for your existing Eckels Pottery sets, we're here to do that!

Pete Skoro is an accomplished artist and teacher. His professional career was in graphic design. Pottery has always been a hobby and he became a professional potter since meeting and marrying Dede. '20 years working with Dede at Eckels Pottery!

Pete has juried art shows, taught graphic design and pottery to many age groups.
Deanna, the owner of Eckels Pottery, is a master potter with over 45 years of ceramics experience. She grew up in Eckels Pottery, learned from her father Bob Eckels, fulfilled an apprenticeship in Boston, MA, and has a degree in Fine Art and Art Education. She has been featured in art shows across the country including the Smithsonian Craft Show.
She has many years of experience training apprentices, teaching and representing other artist. Dede enjoys sharing the pottery process with shop visitors, and teaching other artists - stop for a tour!

Robert Eckels, the founder of Eckels Pottery was a master potter for over 60 years. He was also an art professor for 40 years. He worked at Stratford College, and founded the Art Department at Northland College. He had many apprentices over the years, and was instrumental in developing the Art community in the Chequamegon Bay.

An inclusive community pottery classroom
In 2025, Deanna Eckels created a unique classroom at Eckels Pottery for community and visitors.
"360°" provides space to learn about pottery by giving it a try! This has become a full circle moment (or 360 degrees) for Deanna because she is returning the space back to Robert Eckels's deep love for art education. Studio 360° will features 2- hour lessons, kids classes, Raku firing workshops, primitive firing workshops, and multi-week classes. We will also feature private lessons, or group private lessons.
As the pottery celebrates its 65th anniversary, Deanna is looking forward to focusing on teaching art and ceramics. When you come to Bayfield, you now have the opportunity to experience pottery, and learn from master potters.
We are excited to welcome you to the learning space! Take a spin on the wheel with a "Pop Up" Pottery Lesson, or find more in depth learning during one of our multi-sesson classes.
