Welcome to Eckels Pottery. We are located in Bayfield Wisconsin along the shore of Lake Superior. Our studio is the oldest functional pottery in Wisconsin. Robert Eckels founded the pottery in 1960. It has been an art gallery and functional studio ever since. It is now owned by his daughter, Deanna Eckels. When visiting, explore the unique hand-crafted pottery for sale, watch a master potter at work, check out a kiln opening, or discuss the field of pottery or beyond with Deanna and Pete.

Introducing: Studio 360

An inclusive community pottery classroom

This year, Deanna Eckels has created a unique classroom at Eckels Pottery for community and visitors to learn about pottery by giving it a try!   Studio 360 will features 2 hour lessons, kids classes, raku firing workshops, primitive firing workshops, and multi-week classes. We will also feature private lessons, or group private lessons

Deanna's father, Robert was a revolutionary in the mid-century pottery movement in the US, and he was a well known art professor at Stratford College and Northland College.  One of his goals at Eckels Pottery was to educate people about the process of functional pottery, and the artistry and expression of ceramics.  He taught over 50 apprentices though the years, and many are now professional potters around the US.

As the pottery celebrates its 65th anniversary, Deanna is looking forward to focusing on teaching art and ceramics. This has become a full circle moment (or 360 degrees) because she is bringing Robert's deep love for art education back to the pottery studio.

We are excited to welcome you to the learning space! Take a spin on the wheel with a private workshop, or find more in depth learning during one of our classes this fall/winter.
